Eric Vloeimans and Will Holshouser
Wendy Richman

Fire up your imagination with a duo of velvety trumpet and booming accordion by Eric Vloeimans and Will Holshouser, plus a solo set of soothing voice and stimulating viola by the singular Wendy Richman.

The duo of Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloiemans and Brooklyn accordionist Will Holshouser began as a chance duo in New York, after which they quickly realized that a longer-term collab was in order. Together they make a carnival of song and improvisation, truly embracing borderlessness between genres. Expressive chamber music played like jazz? Yes! Doc Watson-inspired blues segueing into country? Check! Balkan fanfares with a graceful waltz? This duo does it. As invigorating as it gets live, the duo interacts with the audience, drawing on the fun side of avant-garde techniques for maximum energy and expressive inspiration. Be ready for rich harmonies, catchy melodies, and energetic improvising.

Eric Vloiemans’ music is guided by lyrical force. He studied trumpet with Donald Byrd and has projects with many classical and pop/experimental ensembles like the the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Metropole Okest (Don’t sleep on their album of Esquivel tunes!). Winner of 6 Edisons (Dutch Grammys), his live sound and dramatic stagework combine into unforgettable performances.

Will Holshouser draws on the deeply expressive and fun-loving aspects of the accordion, incorporating melodies you can whistle, pulsating rhythms, mesmerizing hymn-like tunes, rich jazz harmonies, subtle soundscapes and exciting improvisation. He studied composition with Anthony Braxton and has worked with a diverse range of musical talents including Suzanne Vega, Han Bennink, Michael Moore, Uri Caine and Loudon Wainwright III. He has released three albums on the Portuguese label Clean Feed.

Wendy Richman has been working tirelessly to expand (and practically initiate!) repertoire for solo voice/viola. Her debut solo recording vox/viola is a stunning meditation on the richness of one person with two sounds, singing and playing simultaneously.
